DESCRIPTION:Visual Arts in the Valley 2024 will showcase a feast of the arts across numerous\nvenues throughout Kangaroo Valley over the October Long Weekend (Friday 4 to\nMonday 7 October). \nThese events include:\nSalon of Local Artists in the Kangaroo Valley Hall\nOpening: Friday 5 October 6.30pm\nCurated by Boe-Lin Bastian\, this exhibition will feature selected works by local KV\nartists – all eligible for the prestigious Salon Prize\, Packing Room Prize and People’s\nChoice Prize. $2550 in prizes on offer. All works will be on exhibition through to\nMonday 7 and available for sale. \nInvited Gallery of Australian Artists Kangaroo Valley Hall\nOpening: Friday 4 October 6.30pm\nThis year we are proud to welcome Australian Galleries who will exhibit a range of\nworks by significant contemporary Australian artists. This is a unique opportunity to\nview and experience the vast range of artists represented by Australian Galleries\nwithout having to travel to their Sydney or Melbourne galleries. Perched high on the summit of the Cambewarra mountain range\, there is no shortage of sensational views from Coolangatta Mountain in the north\, all the way down to Pigeon house in southern Shoalhaven. Be sure to bring your cameras! \nBring two perspectives to play\, we talk about First Contact here\, what happened around here before and where that leaves us all today.\nWe will be hosted by Barbara and James\, new owners of this spectacular venue\, which has been operating since 1905\, committed to finding a way forward that is Culturally respectful and helps the Shoalhaven become aware of our rich Millenia long history. \nDrew Longbottom\, Dharrawal and Wandra Wandian Man and an influential and respected Knowledge Holder\, Language Custodian\, and Cultural Educator\, will help us understand history from his peoples’ perspective. \nLynne Allen\, incredibly proactive President of the Shoalhaven Historical Society and The Shoalhaven Family History Society will talk about Colonial history and the forces that have shaped what we currently know as the Shoalhaven. \nBring your full attention along for their presentations and your submit your questions for our Q&A\, which they have promised to pursue if unable to answer\, though there is a slim chance of that! \nCanapes and lunch are included on your ticket and the bar is open for business for all your beverage needs.
