Kangaroo Valley Community Forum - Mayoral and Ward 1 Councillor Candidates / Tuesday 3rd September 2024 / 7pm / Kangaroo Valley Hall - KVCCB - Kangaroo Valley

The Kangaroo Valley Community Forum is holding a meeting on September 3, 2024, to introduce the mayoral and ward 1 councillor candidates for the upcoming SCC elections. Due to concerns about low turnout and road closures, the meeting was originally planned to be held in conjunction with another event but has now been moved to its own separate meeting. The format will involve a moderator asking questions to the candidates, and residents can submit their questions beforehand. The main topics for discussion will be the council’s financial situation, road maintenance, and usage of public amenities.

Good evening All,
Last night Berry Forum held a community meeting to introduce the prospective Mayoral Candidates and Ward 1 Councillors for the next four years – with the SCC election coming up on Saturday 14th September. The KVCCB hoped that many of our KV residents and ratepayers would be able to attend this meeting, negating the need for a stand alone meeting here in KV. Unfortunately the wild and wooly weather proved a major deterrent (smart move as both Hugh and I discovered – we did attend).
Whilst attendance at our two monthly KVCCB meetings is increasing, there was some concern that inviting seven people (three Mayoral Candidates and four Councillor Candidates) to attempt to access and depart KV with the current roadworks and closures, and then have low turnout, may well prove to be disadvantageous to the KV community over the next four years when we seek to raise issues and ask for support. (Ward 1 Councillors attend our KVCCB meetings, and indeed all Councillors and the Mayor are entitled to attend any CCB meeting if they wish.)
We have now contacted all three Mayoral Candidates and four Councillor Candidates and booked the KV Hall for next Tuesday 3rd September 2024 at 7pm.
We have had confirmation of ability to attend from two Mayoral Candidates and all four Councillor Candidates thus far.
The format has not been finalised, however we envisage a similar one to that of last night’s event, where questions are asked by the Moderator and not from the floor. To that end, if you have questions for the prospective Councillors, please send them through to the KVCCB ( [email protected] ) by 9am, Monday 2nd September and we will collate them and see how many we can get in. We are working on a tight time frame and will need to forward the questions to all Candidates well prior to the meeting.
The Mayoral Candidates will be asked to answer these three questions:
1 Council’s current financial situation is a serious one – what immediate and longer-term actions would you take to resolve Council’s financial crisis?
2 With currently limited funds, how will you address the poor state of Shoalhaven’s roads, the lack of preventative maintenance and inadequate drainage?
3 With currently limited funds, how will you address restriction for usage of public amenities?
Each Candidate will also have the opportunity to speak first as to why they are standing, what they represent and what they intend to achieve.
Regards,
Brenda
