Upcoming closure of Moss Vale Road at Cambewarra Mountain

Routine maintenance work

We will be carrying out routine maintenance on Moss Vale Road next week. To reduce impacts to motorists and residents, this work will take place at night.

What work are we doing?

Maintenance work along the 10.6 kilometre stretch of mountainous road will include repairing the road surface, repairing and clearing drains, maintaining signage, clearing vegetation and collecting litter.

When and where are we working?

Moss Vale Road will be closed between Barfield Road and Kangaroo Valley Road from 8pm to 4am, Sunday 8 to Thursday 12 December 2024, weather permitting. 

Why are we doing it now?

This five-night full closure of Moss Vale Road at Cambewarra Mountain has been coordinated between our maintenance and natural disaster recovery teams and will allow us to complete a significant amount of work uninterrupted. 

During this upcoming night work, we will complete our essential maintenance work in preparation for the summer holidays, and it will allow our natural disaster team to complete work that can only be done under a full closure, such as resurfacing the road.

We understand this closure may impact some members of the community and we will accommodate resident access throughout work hours.

We thank you for your patience while we carry out this work and look forward to restoring the road as soon as possible.

Traffic impacts during work hours

Moss Vale Road will be closed to traffic during work hours. The current arrangements which allow for intermittent traffic access at Cambewarra Mountain will not be in place during this work.

Detours will be in place for light vehicles via Kangaroo Valley Road, with motorists advised to allow 25 minutes’ additional travel time.

Restoring full road access

We are getting close to wrapping up work at the natural disaster site on Cambewarra Mountain.

Work is progressing well and we’re aiming to restore the road to two lanes by the end of the year, with some finishing works to be completed in early 2025.
