The Kangaroo Valley Power Station is undergoing a proposed expansion project, and Origin has provided an update on the project’s progress. They have engaged with state agencies, conducted additional surveys, and are working with a contractor to refine the project’s footprint. However, additional studies and assessments are needed, leading to a request for an 18-month extension on the response to submissions report. Origin will continue to operate and maintain their existing operations while working on the project. The community will be updated on any significant changes.

KVCCB – Shoalhaven Hydro Proposed Expansion Project Update
Hi KV Community,
Please see below for an update on the Proposed Expansion Project at the Kangaroo Valley Power Station.
Regards,
Al Lockyer Committee Member Kangaroo Valley Community Consultative Body |
Good afternoon,
The purpose of this email is to provide you with an update on our Shoalhaven Hydro Expansion Project.
Since the close of the Shoalhaven Hydro Expansion Project’s Environmental Impact Assessment exhibition period, Origin has undertaken a series of key activities, these include:
- Engaging with various State agencies to clarify requirements outlined in submissions and agreeing upon the next steps for further works;
- Conducting additional biodiversity surveys and commencing updates to the Biodiversity Development Assessment Report; and
- Working closely with our preferred contractor to explore potential refinements in the Project’s proposed disturbance footprint.
It has become apparent while progressing these tasks that several additional long lead studies and assessments are required, these include:
- Conducting a series of geotechnical studies to inform design;
- Updating existing survey and assessment reports; and
- Ongoing discussions and workshops with State agencies to address various commercial matters and receive input into studies and assessments.
These long lead studies are required to address the requests received from key stakeholders including the Department of Planning Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) and other State agencies.
Given the scope of the additional work required, Origin has formally requested an extension of the Response to Submissions report for a period of 18 months from DPHI.
It is important to note that while progressing these studies and assessments that Origin continues to operate and maintain its existing operations at the Bendeela and Kangaroo Valley Power Stations.
Origin will continue to keep the community updated with material changes, should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us. Alternatively, if you do not wish to receive further email updates, please let us know.
Regards,
Power Development Projects Team
