Kangaroo Valley felt the immense impact of the Currowan Bushfires, then endured the Covid lock downs and endless travel restrictions. The Kangaroo Valley community could have done without the extra challenges of extreme weather and broken roads. Businesses are reporting an 80% downturn in trade since the Southern Highlands detour was put in place. The small but resilient community of Kangaroo Valley remains open but needs visitors to thrive.
You can help by planning a visit to Kangaroo Valley in the very near future. Plan the perfect family day out at the monthly Farmer’s Markets, explore the quaint Pioneer Museum, immerse yourself in secluded bush walks and wander through the unique antique, homewares, gifts and fashion stores in the village. Enjoy an easy lunch at Madisons or the village bakery.

Explore the village and surrounds by bike in the afternoon, there is even bike hire available. Kangaroo Valley has its very own pump track that will keep the kids busy and is well worth the drive over Berry Mountain. The older kids can enjoy the challenge of a family ride to the footbridge at Upper Kangaroo River Hall, where you may even spot a platypus. Explore beyond the village on a guided tour, bushwalk or rock climbing with Kangaroo Valley Adventure Company and Valley Outdoors.

Now is “peak valley” time, with autumn bringing bright days and cosy nights – the sweet spot for bushwalks and picnics, or even a little camping. Green natural views are a great way to boost your mental health, and with all that rain, Kangaroo Valley has never looked so good. To get your dose of lush green, head out to Three Views walk or meander through the bush reserve right in town and enjoy the quiet stillness of fewer people. Don’t forget you can grab some sandwich supplies from the General Store, a takeaway from Stop N Taste or pre-order a picnic box from Hampden Deli or a delicious loaf of sour dough from The General café’s Mrs Bread. If you like it super sleepy, skip the weekends and holidays and book in your midweek self-catered escape.
