The Kangaroo Valley Craft Beer & BBQ Festival
Held in the grounds of the region’s leading hotel The Friendly Inn, the KVBBQ Festival 2018 features dozens of craft beer breweries, top of the line barbecue caterers, live music, and a host of all-ages activities from piglet racing to helicopter rides.
Among the weekend’s major events will be Saturday’s Steak Cookoff competition. Over 30 teams are to battle it out cooking a range of meats over several hours in a bid to win cash, prizes and a ranking among the country’s best barbecue cooks. BBQ and butchery demonstrations will also be taking place so everyone can learn a few tips from the best in the barbecue business.
The ever-popular piglet races take place on both days allowing all festival goers to place their bets on the cute little critters which will be wearing their different coloured vests in any of the seven heats per day.
No festival goer will be left hungry either, with succulent barbecue and other meals available from a range of top-notch purveyors including Black Iron Smokers and their new 2.3 tonne Silver Creek Smoker, the largest of its kind in Australia.
A standout attraction in its own right, the Silver Creek Smoker will produce three times the amount its predecessor did at last year’s festival, which was an impressive total of 400 beef ribs, 350 burgers and more. This year the Silver Creek Smoker will churn out an even greater number of beef brisket and pulled pork burgers, giant beef and pork ribs as well as a tasty vegetarian option - an haloumi cheese, rocket and portobello mushroom burger.
Nomad Kitchen and BBQ brings their smokehouse trailer to provide tasty Black Angus brisket pies, southern style charred wings and more, while Brazilian Flame BBQ will dish out their unique Portuguese and South American steakhouse meals.
Leading craft breweries at this year’s festival include Pirate Life, Bentspoke, Lord Nelson Brewery and Yak Ales. Experts from each will be on hand at the stalls and on the Brewers Stage to give free advice on everything from home brewing techniques to the secrets behind the best craft beer.
Also in the schedule are eating competitions, tours of the Friendly Inn’s community herb and vegetable garden, and to keep the kid’s entertained, face painting, a jumping castle and much more.
Roving entertainers and live music will add to the atmosphere. Kids always have a ball in The Friendly Inn’s large dedicated playground and the petting zoo promises to be a big hit as well.
Now in its 6th year, the KVBBQ runs on both days from 10am to 6pm in the expansive leafy grounds and al fresco eating area of The Friendly Inn which has long been hailed one of Australia’s best family-friendly hotels. A range of single, multi-day and family tickets are available, starting from $17.35 for an adult single day pass. Children under 12 receive free entry.
