Experience First Nations Culture at an Upcoming Corroboree in Kangaroo Valley - Kangaroo Valley

Upcoming Corroboree in Kangaroo Valley

In the heart of the lush landscapes of Kangaroo Valley, a unique cultural event is set to unfold, offering locals and visitors alike an opportunity to connect with Australia’s oldest living culture. The upcoming Corroboree, a collaboration between local Indigenous-owned business Gadhungal Marring and the innovative Winderong Farm, promises an evening of deep cultural immersion through storytelling, dance, and a shared meal featuring native foods.

As the sun sets at 6pm, the Corroboree will begin. This ancient cultural practice, a way to give back to Mother Earth, involves sharing stories through dance and song, celebrating the creation of native animals, and paying respects to the wisdom they embody. It’s a vibrant expression of gratitude and reverence for Country.

Before the Corroboree commences, attendees are invited to participate in one of two specially curated workshops starting at 4pm. The first option is an “On Country Experience” which offers a guided walk through the stunning bushland of Winderong Farm. Participants will learn about the culinary and cultural uses of native plants, enjoy indigenous storytelling, and experience the mesmerizing sounds of the yidaki (didgeridoo).

Alternatively, the “Dance and Culture Workshop” provides a hands-on opportunity to delve into the rich tapestry of Indigenous culture through movement and song. This pre-Corroboree workshop is designed to foster a deeper understanding and connection to the world’s oldest living culture through both body and mind.

Following the Corroboree and a smoking ceremony, attendees will be treated to a meal prepared by Angie from The Valley Table. This shared dinner features native ingredients with a modern twist. From kangaroo stew to myrtle damper, the menu caters to diverse dietary needs, including gluten-free, vegan, and children’s options.

The collaboration between Gadhungal Marring and Winderong Farm for this event is a testament to a shared commitment to environmental stewardship, cultural revitalization, and community engagement. Winderong Farm, known for its efforts in regenerative agriculture and sustainable living, provides the perfect setting for an event that celebrates the connection between land, culture, and community.

This event is a heartfelt invitation to all who wish to deepen their understanding of Indigenous culture, connect with the community, and experience the beauty and wisdom of traditional practices. Children are welcome, with free admission for those under five, making it a family-friendly event that promises to educate, inspire, and unite.

As we anticipate the gathering, the Kangaroo Valley community and its visitors are reminded of the importance of coming together to honour, learn from, and celebrate the rich cultural heritage that has thrived on this land for tens of thousands of years.
